Victrex plc awarded RoSPA President’s Award for third time
03/30/2009Recognition for sustained effort in maintaining excellent health and safety performance record and systems management
24 March 2009 – Thornton Cleveleys,–Victrex plc, a leading provider of high performance polymers including VICTREX® PEEK™ polymer, VICOTE® Coatings and APTIV™ films, has won the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) President’s Award for the third consecutive year.
The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest running (more than 50 years) and most highly respected occupational awards program in the UK. The President’s Award is among the scheme’s most prestigious awards. It is only awarded to companies that operate comprehensive health and safety management systems and are able to demonstrate a high level of occupational health and safety performance over a sustained period of more than ten years.
“Victrex is honored to be recognized by RoSPA, we believe that good health and safety performance go hand in hand with good business performance. As our clients continue to demand higher standards in this area, being able to demonstrate our credentials through these RoSPA awards is important in an increasingly competitive environment,” said Tim Walker, Production and Technical Director of Victrex.“ The Board of Directors of Victrex plc is fully committed to ensuring that the company’s occupational health and safety management systems adhere to the world’s current best practice and it is constantly looking for ways to enhance or improve in this and every other area of the business.”
“This award really goes to each and every member of the Victrex team,” continued Walker. “It’s only through their sustained efforts in implementing our in-house systems that we have been successful in maintaining our excellent health and safety record.”
Victrex has won the President’s award for the third time in recognition of winning a Gold Achievement Award over a sustained period of twelve consecutive years. The award underscores Victrex’s ongoing commitment to the management of health and safety related issues; to setting targets for continuous improvement; to motivating employees; and to raising awareness of health and safety in the workplace.
RoSPA recently urged firms not to ignore safety during the recession, warning that there is a danger that occupational health and safety could be seen as a problem largely solved - a ‘nice-to-have’ rather than an essential social and economic ingredient.
“The unique value of Victrex has always been our ability to tailor high performance PEEK-based polymers for our customer's best advantage, to provide the highest quality PEEK product available and to work with our customers to achieve improvements in their product performance, quality, market differentiation and costs,” Walker concluded.
